This week we have been learning about An Aimsir and as part of this we made our own mini weather station.
We made a windsock which shows the wind direction and how strong the wind is.
We also made a rain gauge to measure the rainfall. Ryan’s Dad brought us a big pot full of chips to keep the gauge steady, we made a funnel from the top of a bottle and the rain collects in a jar underneath.
Dear Parents,
We hope to run off trials for Cork City Sports on Thursday. We will do so at the pitch. Please collect Infants from the pitch at 1.50pm. All other classes can be collected from school. The ground will be wet so the children should bring a small towel and change of socks and runners.
We will be finishing our Sláinte hour on Friday. We have found it to be a huge success and thank the children for their co-operation.
The children can wear their own clothes on Friday. School will finish at 12pm on Friday 22nd of March for the Easter holidays and re-open on Monday 8th of April.

Dear Parents,
As you know 1st-6th class will be attending swimming lessons on Thursday 9th of November -Thursday 14th of December.
Swimming is part of the PE curriculum and all children are given the chance to participate in swimming. Due to the high price of buses/lessons and the number of school personnel, it is necessary that all pupils participate. Unfortunately, we do not have enough staff to facilitate some children staying at school. Should your child not be able to participate on any given day, they can accompany us to the pool and sit at the side.
The children will need the following in a bag:
Swimming togs
Swimming hat
Goggles (if possible)
Towel
Hair towel (if applicable)
Some tips for swimming:
Wear togs under uniform in the morning
Plait longer hair
Hair towels can be worn in the bus back to school
Bring a plastic bag for wet gear
The pool staff have requested that children only rinse after swimming and do not shampoo their hair.

Dear Parents,
As is tradition, we will be taking part in Dunmanway's annual Saint Patrick's day parade on Sunday 17th of March at 1pm. The theme for this year's parade is "The story of Saint Patrick". We ask that children wear any green Saint Patrick's day clothes.
The parade leaves from the church in Dunmanway. Our float will be positioned at the lake and we ask that children be brought to the lake (where we were positioned last year).
Juniors to 2nd class can go on the float and we ask that they be helped onto the float when you arrive. The 3rd - 6th class can walk behind the float.
Please meet us at O'Murchú's/The West End directly after the parade and inform one of the teachers that you are taking the child/children. No child will be allowed to walk back up to the square to meet parents.
The 4th - 6th class will train for football (girls) and soccer (boys) on Friday 15th at 1.50-2.50pm and on Friday 22nd at 9.10am-10.15am. The boys will just need runners. The girls will need football boots and mouth guards. After Easter, the 4th - 6th class will do football training in preparation for Sciath na Scol on Thursdays from 1.50-2.50pm.
A gentle reminder that children are not to be dropped at school before 8.50am and please collect the children on time at 1.50pm or 2.50pm. We ask that parents cross the road to collect their child (no matter their age) to ensure their safety as they cross the road.
Next week is Seachtain na Gaeilge, the children are welcome to bring in an instrument on Tuesday 12th of March for a sing song with Ger.
I'd just like to remind you that if you would like a raffle ticket for the Tractor Run, they can be purchased at the school office Monday - Thursday. Also, if you would like to drop any prizes in for the raffle, you can do so any morning or evening at drop off and collection times.

Dear Parents,
The FAI 5 - a side soccer finals will be held in Musgrave Park in Cork on Friday 19th of April at 10.30am. The 4th - 6th class boys and girls are welcome to travel on the day. The bus will be leaving at 8.30am and we should be back for 2.50pm. The cost for the day is €10. Children will need to wear their PE uniform, have a coat and packed lunch. The boys that are playing will need their boots, shin guard and shorts.

Just a reminder that children cannot be dropped to school until 8.50am. The children are not insured to be on the school property before this time and on a more practical level, the teachers use this time to prepare for the day and we would really appreciate if you could respect this.
