Rounders
The ASC were given a suggestion to make a school set of rules for rounders. These proved very handy today for the children in first to third class during the lunch time to play a fair game.
Partnerships: Rugby!
Don’t forget to hand in your form before the 25th of January, to be in with a chance to be the Irish rugby teams mascot. The application form is below if anyone has lost theirs.
Snow is falling
We were all delighted to see the snow today and enjoyed having a run around in it before it melted.
Physical activity in our lines
While the children are in their lines the ASC model different exercises to keep everyone moving. They do exercises like squats, jumping jacks, running on the spot etc. It is great to see the whole school moving more often together.
Walking as your talking
The ASC are encouraging their peers to keep moving during their breaks. They are motivating each other to stay walking even when they are talking. In the picture below we have a fantastic example of the girls in sixth class walking as they are talking. Keep it up everyone!
Thank You
A big thank you from the Active Schools committee for your kind donations for the Santa Dash. We raised over €150 for P.E. equipment/workshops. We look forward to getting more active this term. Thanks again for your support, The Active Schools committee.
Santa Dash!
The whole school took part in a fun filled afternoon just before the Christmas holidays. The children dressed up in Christmas clothes and took part in different activities and races. Some the races were; the bauble and spoon race, Santa’s sack race and polar bear races. The children also played pin the nose on Rudolf, Christmas statues(musical statues) and Christmas Charades. The Santa dash was another great way to get everyone moving and having fun.
Physical Activity: Peile posts indoor football
This time, the boys took part in an indoor football blitz in Ballinacarriga Hall. They played against Gael Scoil Cloch na gCoilte, Carraigboy & Newcestown. They won all their games! Congratulations Boys!!
Achievements: Dance
Congratulations to Leah Murphy who won 3rd place in a recent dance competition. Well Done Leah!
Circuits
The Active Schools Committee have created a rainy day rota for circuits in the middle room. The pupils will carry out various exercises during their breaks. While we were stuck indoors on Thursday due to the weather we tried out the circuits as a whole school in the hall. The Active Schools Committee were the leaders for different stations modelling the exercises. The children did shuttle runs, jumping jacks, squats, planks and high knees. We are looking forward to doing learning and trying out different exercises in our next circuits.
Rainy Days!
The senior classroom didn’t let the wet weather stop them from getting active yesterday. During their lunch break they used GoNoodle and enjoyed some zumba and yoga indoors. The children are looking forward to trying out different exercises during their break when its raining from now on.
N.C.T.
We carried out our first ever ‘No Car Thursday’ on the 1st of December 2016 and it was a great success. The children and the staff met at two different locations and walked to school together. It was a fun and safe way (thanks to the Green Schools Committee’s survey and for the high vis jackets) to get active in the morning. Thank you to everyone who took part and we look forward to walking to school together every Thursday from now on.
Walk on Wednesday
A few pics from Walk on Wednesday. The whole school walked from the hall to the school on a beautiful crisp winter morning. A very enjoyable walk!
Trooper Tuesdays
In one of Active Schools Committee meetings the children thought of ideas to help get everyone in school active. One of their ideas was to do ‘Trooper Tuesdays’ before school which was encouraged by their active homework. While the children were waiting for school to start, they choose different exercises to carry out to get active more often. It was fantastic to see them all having so much fun in the morning.
Active Schools Slogan
The Active School Committee, created a competition for the school, to create our schools Active Schools slogan. All the children discussed why its important to be active and how we can encourage others to be active too. The children created slogans and the Active Schools Committee and the staff decided on the winning slogan. The slogan which impressed us all the most, was the slogan from a Senior Infant which was; ‘Everybody, everyday, should walk, run, jump and play.’
Here is our winner with her brilliant slogan and her brand new helmet, congratulations, we hope you enjoy cycling with your new helmet.
Active Homework
The pupils have been encouraged to get active after school by getting Super Troopers Homework every night. The pupils have been carrying out Super Troopers for many weeks now and are learning lots of fun new exercises.
Peile Posts
The 3rd & 4th class girls took part in an indoor football tournament in Ballinacarriga Hall on Tuesday 29th Nov.
They played against Barryroe, Carrigboy, Derrinacahara and Newcestown.
They used the new posts called Peile Posts which have been installed in the hall recently.
Move it on Mondays!
The children were very busy this morning with ‘Move it on Mondays’. The Greens School Committee measured out the perimeter of the school yard last week and today the children walked it seven times. They had walked a whole Kilometer this morning before school even started. It was a fantastic start to the school day, as the children were feeling energized for their first lesson. Keep up the good work guys!
Football Free Fridays
Today the Active Schools Committee carried out a survey throughout the school to see if the children would enjoy a day without soccer/football as it was a subject that was suggested to the Active School Committee. The survey showed that the majority of pupils would like to have more of an opportunity to discover different activities. As a school we are going to pilot ‘football free Friday’ up until Christmas. ‘Football free Fridays’ is an initiative to encourage pupils to explore different activities and learn new skills with their peers. We are going to have our ‘first football free Friday’ on the 2nd of December.
Dedicated Dancers!
The whole school are very busy at the moment getting ready for the Christmas concert. Each week, we are practicing different dance moves and are really enjoying learning new skills in our dances with Jenny. We are looking forward to performing our new moves during the concert with you all.
